Detrick "Rick" Karl Heldt Obituary (1950

Detrick "Rick" Karl Heldt, 66, died Friday, April 21, 2017, at his home in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation and a celebration of his life will be held on Sat., Apr. 29, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa. There will be a private family burial at a later date. Detrick Karl Heldt was born June 25,1950, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Louis and Gertrude (Maulton) Heldt. He was a member of the Oelwein Community High School Class of 1969. During his senior year, he enlisted in the Marines and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in January 1971. Rick worked at Transco Railway in Oelwein, Logansport, Indiana and Sioux City, Iowa. He also owned and operated River Lanes in Lansing, Iowa. While living in Lansing, he founded Night Crawlers Forever, a fundraising event that is still held more than 20 years later. Rick enjoyed fishing. being with his family and friends, and making big meals that would be ready in "another 20 minutes." He was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews - or so he claimed. Known as a jokester whose shenanigans and bantering never stopped, Rick also was kind-hearted, generous and especially proud of his two daughters and his four grandchildren. Rick is survived by his daughters, Katy Heldt (Caleb Lieran) of Waukon, Iowa, and Molly Heldt (Joel Strohman) of West Union, Iowa; his grandchildren, Kinzly Strohman, Stella Lieran, Colton Lieran, and Rhyus Strohman; siblings Eugene Heldt of Oelwein, Patricia Baker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jacqueline Greco of Oelwein, James (Nancy) Heldt of Florida, and George Heldt of Estherville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings - Janice Volker, Robert Heldt, Richard Heldt, Joel Heldt and John Heldt.
